Hey OP, your privilege is seeping through a bit. May want to patch that up before it spills out onto all of your friends.

A lot of people can barely afford to pay their bills if they make anywhere from minimum wage to $20 a hour.

A friend lost her job during the great recession, and is now still only making $20 an hour in her 50s. After paying for health care and health insurance, there isn't much left.

This question is like the one asking why teetotalers can’t have just one light beer. Why do you care and why do they need to explain their decisions to you?

I'll bite.

I live on a fixed income. I am going out to eat less and when I do it's to lower priced places.

I am also driving less as much as I can to avoid paying so much for gas.

I also rarely go shopping and mostly only for stuff I really need.

I don't want to start using my credit cards if I can help it, saving that for if I need a car repair or if I want to go on a trip to see my family, stuff like that.

It's a bit more of a frugal life than I normally lead but it's not killing my joy.

Have you considered not everyone has the same expenses? Not everyone works the same distance away from home as you? Not everyone has the same rent or mortgage. Have you considered some people have family members in other countries they're sending money to? That being poor is expensive?

I don't understand how people cant afford to go out.

Gas prcies are up but its only like $50 dollars every 2 weeks for me.

At the end of the day I only spending $40 dollars more a month on gas? Maybe its time to start paying people a living wage. I just don't understand how folks on Facebook are staying home and not going on when they are "working" full tine...
