It feels similar to voting for Janeese Lewis George and that has turned out really well so far. I don't have to agree with every policy position, but I value genuine interaction, willingness to listen and (gasp) incorporate people feedback. Erin Palmer seems similar.

Also, I know and trust some of the people who support her. I don't think we can go wrong here.

I agree with PPs that Mendelson hasn’t done much in recent memory. He’s a long time DC politician and wants to stay that way. I’ll be voting for Palmer.

I've known Mendelson since his first election back in the early 90's. He's dead to me now, since I learned that he backed the Old Hardy lease and then picked the Lab School's chief lobbyist as his campaign treasurer.

This is by far the least off putting thing about her, are you kidding me?

I’d love some new blood on the council but any support at all for a virtual option at this point in the pandemic (beyond what’s always existed for kids going through chemo etc) is a complete and utter dealbreaker to me. It says that she’s unable to differentiate what’s popular on Twitter from what’s good policy in reality. Actually tbh a few of her other policy positions strike me that way too.

I am voting for her. I think the assumption that she doesn't have a chance is based in the power of incumbency. It's very very hard to unseat an incumbent. I think mendelson stinks, but there's no scandal or other high-profile reason for people who otherwise aren't paying attention to vote against him. So they won't vote or will default to voting for the name they vaguely recognize.

Yea. Mommy-shaming is deeply ingrained in society, so it's not surprising you are reacting this way. Women are supposed to smile beatifically and say "my little angels" all the time. FFS.

Yeah she seems pretty good except is extremely Covid Conscious and wanted to keep DC schools closed and gungho about about a virtual option even this year, so hesitant to vote for her.

She seems great and I am more aligned with her on a number of issues. Yet, no one seems to think of her as having a real chance against Mendelson. What am I missing?
