I would look into the city of Newport News and see if that is the college town you are looking to reside.

Commuter school vibe.

Everyone goes home on the weekend.

You can only shop at Target and the mall so many times a month.

grow up and return to your dorm and studies

Christopher Newport has been a four year institution since 1971.

A friend of mine went and loved it. He played soccer for CNU.

Look up "day in the life" for different colleges on youtube. It's not a comprehensive view of student life, but it gives some glimpses.

pon

I imagine this is a troll response considering it is within reach of the largest populations in VA. Believe this poster couldn't even say where the closest target is to CNU...

Appreciate the responses. We plan to visit over a fall football weekend to check out the scene.

I’m not so sure about the previous comment about Target and the mall. While the Hampton Roads area isn’t Tysons, the area does offer museums, shopping, the beach, restaurants and stuff to do. I am concerned about the commuter vibe and if campus is empty on the weekends and that’s not really what my dd wants either. I do wonder if that is an issue at state schools since home is probably within a close distance.

Great school spirit, we live in the area and have a HS student that plays soccer, we attend all the games we can, always a nice lively crowd.

Great school spirit. Decent sized marching band. Tailgating for football games. (Move your car for football game days!) Strong intramural sports, too.

My dd is interested in CNU. The one thing we weren’t able to determine on our visit was, is there any school spirit? Do students go to football and basketball games? Are they lively? Anyone know. She goes to her high school games now and even plays for a team or 2 and she wants a school that has high attendance and all that offers. Thanks.
