I know there is no Pre med major.

There are kids that do CS undergrad and pursue an MD after that. This gives the kid an opportunity to decide if Medicine is for them and switch over to a CS career if that loses shine by the time they finish undergrad.

Your kid can major in CS and just take the pre-med prerequisites. DS was a Latin major and got into a top med school!

Yes, most of those who come into college as pre-med never apply to med school because they wash out or change their minds. And most of those who apply to med school don’t get in.

Those are two very different careers.

DD wants to be an MD with some reservations because of the lengthy of time.
She didn’t want to consider PA or NP.

Yes, this is very strange. You can be both premed and a CS major I'd you want to. My friend from college who is now an OB was a Spanish major.

But it just depends on what you want to do.

Run the NPV for both. There is no comparison right now. Medicine can't compete. It used to be a good career path in the 70's and 80's but now, with the insurance companies squeezing from one end and doctors essentially being employees of large provider corporations, with little or no freedom, the rise of lower paid nurse practitioners and a host of other changing market conditions, t's not worth it anymore.

Why is this even a question if he’s not interested in pre-med and he is interested in CS. Who wants him to pursue pre-med?

CS unless DC wants to be a specialist in terms of money. If your DC is male, make sure he has female sisters, cousins, besties, ex-girlfriends, or his life quality and nurturing mothering ability of his future kids may suffer. All the meanest, cattiest, most dishonest, most bullying, most misogynist, most bigoted girls marry engineers. Platinum diggers marry doctors though. If DC is female, she will have to deal with more brogrammer culture in CS. What school is DC at? Depts matter.

Very different. CS is a better path in terms of opportunity cost. My friend graduating from med school is making 60k this June starting residency and has to face horrible working conditions for the next four years at least. Her younger brother in CS just bought a 800k house- so yea

Ours chose CS because he faints at the sight of blood and med was never something he wanted to do. On the other hand he finds his CS class to be the most fun he's ever had in school.

What does your child want to do? He's the only one who can answer this question. If he can't decide, aim for a shcool with broad core requirements that will let hm explore many areas before selecting a major.

CS and premed are not mutually exclusive. DC can do both.
