Frankly Pizza VERY kid friendly. Dish & Dram and Knowles Station fine for kids too. K Town Bistro is really yummy but a bit stuffier.

Not in Kensington, but not too far. I like Clyde's Tower Oaks for kid friendly but feels grown up.
