I use only the Lenox plates for Easter, Mother's Day, birthday/special dinners/lunches. It gets used throughout the year but only the plates. The other pieces just sit. Some still have tags on it. If you're thinking about getting a china set, I would say only get plates. The other pieces won't get used much.
Agree for the most part, but I ordered only dinner plates and there have been many times I've wished I had bread & butter plates for either salad or dessert. "Dessert" plates in the US are really too large for these purposes (they're usually >8") but bread and butter plates could be used for a lot. Dessert plates are most useful if you're having a cocktail/holiday/bridal party and want people to fit 4-ish bite-sized things on them.
When I say plates, I mean the dinner plates, salad/dessert plates and bread/butter plates. I use them all. I don't use the tea cups and saucers and serving dishes that much.
