my own kid is moving slowly on it, but that because it's AP testing last and this week, and DC still has a Month until HS graduation. Throw in final dance competition, final dance recital, Prom, older sibling's college graduation, final band concert and rehearsals for that, and I'm sure I've missed something (yeah, there are still officially "senior finals"). They are still enjoying the end of HS. Just make sure you know key dates (like housing signup) that they really can't miss. Other than that, be kind and gentle

We're in the same boat. DC is a procrastinator on a good day - throw in graduation and all the other churn and he's got his head in the sand. The only thing that helped was talking to a friend who is a freshman at the school DC will be attending who told him a horror story of getting stuck in a tiny room in a dorm with no AC with a terrible roommate because he didn't get his houseing paperwork in. That motivated DC to get through the process.

Honestly, I just insist that it be done. Pick a time when they want/need something from you and say, "before I do x, I'd like you to fill out that form." This works pretty well for me, but I've been leveraging my kids' wants/needs for years lol so they are accustomed to this (and also know from experience that I am very willing to say no to requests if I don't get what I'm asking for in return. It helps--a lot-- that my kids don't have their own cars but must borrow mine. ).

One of the California universities just cancelled/withdrew students who didn’t file their housing forms. There are real repercussions here. Maybe remind them of that?

There are two types of college freshmen- the ones that do these forms as soon as they come and the ones that realize 11pm the night the forms are due that they haven’t filled them out. Guess which one I had?

Mine too. At his school some majors have a math placement test they need to take before May 17.

I have two older kids and found that they (especially the oldest) didn't check emails/portals frequently enough. After learning with him, we've really emphasized with our other two the importance of checking (both emails and portals) EVERY SINGLE DAY.

If you have access to his portal, find out when the deadlines are (without telling them, of course). Maybe this information will lower your anxiety.

DP. My kid’s slowness in looking at incoming emails and reacting to them has led to an extremely inconvenient and expensive situation regarding mandatory summer orientation. And also has meant he gets no choice in dorms.

Mine missed the deadline for registration….. BOTH semesters…. Had to contact advisor, figure out a game plan, take the bottom of the barrel of classes that were left, which meant 8 am classes. I stressed for them as I saw the train wreck coming. But, they live, they learn. Although for my kid it might take all four years.

My DC's chosen school has sent a ton of google forms to fill out, modules to complete and other such onboarding activities. DC has done none of it and actively resists when I ask about it all. I realize the school year is ending also, but I'm afraid if they wait to do the college stuff, deadlines may be missed and needed classes not available. Please commiserate and/or help me chill out about this.
