SMS has been a mess for a while. Several years ago a teacher had to leave in the middle of the year due to a criminal investigation. I have heard stories of unqualified teachers. Aides are being put in the classroom with no experience.

A friend of mine once told me that Catholic school is 90% of public school work for75% of public school pay. Catholic doesn’t have some of the benefits of independent like small class sizes. Catholic school has 24-28 kids in a class some with learning issues.

I hope St. Mary’s can get a good principal who can attract high quality staff AND stand up to the pastor. ( That is a whole nother problem).

There are at least 2 headmasters leaving in the dmv area from catholic school after only few years. One never settled in I know of. Not a good thing.

Why is it unusual? Job transfers for the spouse happen A LOT and principals are not immune to that fact. Your post indicates it seems school families, like yourself, may be looking for drama where there is none.

Headmaster at our St Anselms is leaving. He took position that became open last summer. Pretty much been coasting this ride out.

People move out of the area all the time. No drama involved. No need to give more notice.

Catholic School contracts are due at the end of May.

They probably interviewed last month and got calls/contracts last week for the next job.

How much more notice do they "have to give" and do they owe that to the people doing the staffing or to the parents directly? If you were starting a new job in 2-3 months, how would you plan your departure?

BSSM parent: you post here after every single school email. Why? Do you ever call the school with your questions? They are quite gracious and happy to help you.

Back to your question, turnover in the DC area is quite common. A lot of people move, retire, or their spouses get transferred for their job. Not everything is a scandal.

Not sure where you have been. The number of teachers and admin leaving is pretty high everywhere right now.
