Can I have her paycheck direct deposited in my checking account? I know that’s not ideal.
Also, when I help her open a checking account, does my name need to be on it too? She is 15.
Thanks!

It takes less than an hours to set this up and I suspect you can do it online. We did this with Bank of America. It was a joint account between DC and myself but he got the debit card in his name and gets to operate it. We also setup a savings account to hold more anything than $100. He can transfer any money he needs to checking before using his debit card. Protects from debit card fraud.

This is what we have done for our 3 kids. Before covid, it took less than an hour inperson. But now, who knows. If I were you, i would call you bank branch and ask when you and your kid can come in to set this up.

I’d be surprised if you have to go in. You can accomplish this in minutes online with Capital One.

They don’t do paper checks any more.

It shouldn’t take 15 minutes — open an account. I have my name on for all our minor children.

Takes the same time even during Covid. Banks are open for face-to-face business now.

my kids are on individual accounts that I can access via one of my own accounts at Navy Federal. I can see transactions on deposit and withdrawals as well as transfer money if needed as the older one is now in college.

I did this for my kids online, linked through my checking account. Capital One, but I'm sure most do it.

You can open an account with her online.

Most places will not issue paper checks. If you don’t do direct deposit they issue debit cards with horrible fees and restrictions. Get her an account ASAP.

Teen should have their own account with you as custodian. Once they become adult, they can take you off as custodian. Have them set up a Roth IRA.

I'd just have them issue a paper check until you get her account set up. I don't recall that ever being a problem.

My teen is staring a job soon, and I flaked on getting her set up with a teen checking account.
Can I have her paycheck direct deposited in my checking account? I know that’s not ideal.
Also, when I help her open a checking account, does my name need to be on it too? She is 15.
Thanks!
