We went several years ago-2008. Back then there used to be a train to the castle and we took a connecting bus.

The zoo is nice, with multiple play areas and beer gardens.

Love the Viktualienmarkt and surrounding area.

If your kids are into soccer, do a stadium tour of the Allianz arena.

The area around the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is a bit seedy, but nothing major to worry about.

If your kids are into cars the bmw museum and factory tour is fun.

What do you typically like to do? There are some great museums in Munich, as well as a huge market, lots of cute outdoor squares and cafés, as well as beautiful parks. Dachau is nearby by if that’s of interest. If you like hiking and such, it isn’t hard to get out into the Bavarian alps, visit Ludwig’s castles and such.

I’m not sure what you mean by safety tips. I would just exercise the same caution as one would in any big city.

Enjoy the trip. I first visited there when I was 16 and this summer my 16 year old daughter is going!

Me again. If you’ll have a car, go to Wildpark in Poing. It’s really wonderful, like a combo zoo, petting zoo, and playground.

Munich is a very safe, kid-friendly city. Go to the English Garden for an afternoon. Rent bikes—it’s a very flat, very bike-friendly city. Take a day trip by train to Salzburg or Garmisch. Hang out at beer gardens, which are wonderful places where people of all ages gather. Museums, a minor palace is right there in the city. The zoo is fantastic. Marienplatz is fun to walk around.

OP again. Kids are 15 and 9.

Single mom here. I’ll be spending a week in Munich this summer before meeting up with friends. I’ve never been and would appreciate any advice regarding things to do. Safety tips also welcome. I’m a bit nervous. Thanks.
