Most of the school is new construction as of five years ago. Dunno what part of it the leak happened in, though.

And yeah, what mold? Has this happened there before?

My kid went to Barnsley. We loved the Sunday phone call. Glad to know it is still happening. Sorry to hear about the damage.

Oh, man, that sucks for those teachers whose classrooms were flooded. Most of them have probably lost a lot of their own books and materials that will need to be replaced.

Much appreciate that they announced the closure tonight. Especially seeing as KAH is also closed. Better for families to plan.

Closed Friday:

Dear Barnsley Families,

Thank you for your patience and understanding as the maintenance team, operation staff and contractors work on addressing the damage to our building.

Based on the extent of the damage and the number of classrooms impacted, it has been has determined that our school will be closed tomorrow, Friday, May 5, 2022. The closure includes our before and after care provider, Kids After Hours (KAH).

The team is expected to work throughout the day Friday and over the weekend to ensure the building is dry and ready for reentry. In my Sunday message I will provide you with a status report on the repair work and the plans for Monday. There may be some adjustments to class location on Monday as we allow teachers in the most impacted spaces to have time to inventory their items and ensure their spaces are ready for students to return.

I will continue to keep you updated and thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work through this together.

Seems unlikely the school or KAH will be open. Agree with the PP. The damage seems extensive. Make alternate childcare arrangements for you child.

from the school:

ServePro has deployed crews to Barnsley. In addition, plumbers are on site from our MCPS Midcounty Service Center along with additional staff from our other two maintenance service centers. The clean up and repair operation will be extensive, and will occur throughout the night. While it is our goal and desire to be open tomorrow, we will not know whether that will be possible until the overnight work is completed. I expect to have a status update by 6 am tomorrow as to whether or not we will be able to open, both for KAH and for students and staff. Please check your email in the early morning and look for a follow-up communication. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we manage this unexpected facility challenge.

Has anyone heard if it will affect school tomorrow?

"A pipe in a student bathroom appears to have broken resulting in water quickly flooding multiple floors of our building. Out of an abundance of caution and with safety in mind, we asked students to gather their items for the day and relocate to either indoor spaces that were dry or outdoor locations."

DS claimed some classrooms' ceilings were "raining" or even falling in, and/or carpets soaked, but he's eight so...
