It typically doesn’t take long for a seasoned coach to analyze players’ skills and abilities. It’s pretty easy even for a parent to determine a player’s abilities based on their first touch, ball control and how they kick/pass a ball.

Boys or Girls? Currently there isnt a girls 06 team that plays in EDP- though maybe next year the 3rd team will play in EDP instead of CCL.

That being said- at bethesda thats the 3rd team- MSI and Potomac its likely to be the top team.

Not sure if this is for boys or girls but all the teams you mention are in EDP. At this age, playing time is not guaranteed. Pick a club more based on the coach and the kids rather than the club.

Emails and texts were sent to registrants about the cancellation today because of weather. In that same communication, it stated "if you would like to attend one of the upcoming training days, reach out to the club". If your child impressed the coaches, one day of a tryout was all that was needed.

Personally, I would rather my kid attend a normal training environment than a tryout with a large number of guests.[/quote]

FWIW, my DD attented a few practices during the season, went to the first tryout, couldn't make the other two and was told by one of the coaches "don't worry, we've seen enough to make an assesment." Haven't heard back yet, but DD also said there is no way she's making the top team anyway.

The best way to make a new team is to play agaist them and impress the coach. Second best is to practice with them if you can and if they let you. Otherwise, playing 5v5 on small field, or doing rondos, only shows a few of a player's abilities. For sure, it shows who is skilled on the ball, quick decisions, etc, but it doens't show full-field tactical awareness, overall speed, ability to read offenses/defenses and react, etc. Imprefect. This team isn't a life long commitment. These coaches are professional. There is enough difference in teams that playing 5v5 is enough know what team 99% of kids should be on. The regular teams practice 2-3 times a week all
year and the coaches evaluating are probably coaches of that age group. They know whether you best fit with team A,B, or C by your speed, touches, passing ability, effort etc. If there is a small chance that you are placed on the wrong team, kids frequently move up.

Well, to be fair- the top top teams have the top top talent.

An average player will get an offer on the team they would best fit on.

There shouldnt be a bad stigma about this- the "average" players will be on a team with other "average" players- and will play in a league that would best suit them with comparable talent. Most players would rather be on a a team where theyll excel and get playing time than being #19 or 20 on the top team and not dressing for games.

And this isnt a Bethesda specific system- to imply the other ECNL clubs (or GAL) in the area dont do the same thing is comical.

Bethesda is notorious for targeting the top, top talent. They already know who you are if you're good. And, if they don't, you're going to be one or two they will be watching. And, they'll ask your name during or after. Sorry, but average kids are not really assessed. But, rest assured, such kids will receive a random offer for a low level team via mail so they can take your money all the same.

The non bethesda players wore white t shirt to distinguish outside players from current players.

They did not give numbers last year either. They will send you an invite via email probably in the next 2-3 weeks. Check your spam folder.

Our club doesn't assign numbers either for invite only ECNL IDs/tryouts, so it's not unheard of. The teams that have open tryouts still assign numbers.

Went to Bethesda tryout last night for the first time. They did not assign numbers, wonder how they assess and how they invite? Any insight into their process?
