I'd say worry about getting in first.

This is a complicated issue. The answer is "sometimes." AP and transfer credits count toward lower-level distribution requirements and proficiencies (like math, arts, etc). They don't count for the two required freshman seminars or the upper-level COLL 200 classes (of which there are only 3), which must be taken at W&M.

I guess I’d look at it that the COLL curriculum is a big draw to W&M. People go specifically because they like that sort of liberal arts education. So why try take an end run around it?

Definitely not something to crowdsource here among strangers. Admissions offices must answer these kinds of things all the time. Asking will not jeopardize anything.

No. Unlike at some state colleges, COLL is not a random selection of weedout Gen Eds, but a carefully designed and rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum. An AP course would most likely not compare in terms of difficulty and rigor. AP Credits, can, however, satisfy a few requirements for Intro Classes such as Intro to Psychology.
