All the homecoming/prom songs of the early 2000s have always brought my friend group to the dance floor at weddings. Playing those later in the evening, when the dance floor could easily die down, is key. The best DJs play the overall crowd pleasers early and gradually turn over to the songs the younger crowd will love.
Was at a “younger generation” wedding recently (25ish - we are in our 40s) and the dj switched to 2000s music pretty soon and the young people danced but the older folks all left. Sixties to eighties is just better crowd pleasers. All three generations know them all, and they’re easier to sing along and dance to. And if the young folks won’t dance to older music, that’s on them. Sixties music way predates my generation and we’ve always happily danced to it and had fun.
