+1

My ring was 6k and felt like a small fortune. It still does.

If you are truly upset, please glue in your partner, so they can learn what they are dealing with. Geez.

You live in a strange world if you consider 10k cheap.

All of this.

No piece of stone is worth it’s price, expensive jewelry is a scam, no smart person should fall for.

No. Are you a South African oppressor or something? Investments in Kay Jewelers? What is the insult? Aren't you marrying for being together?

No but I think that understanding the size/cost of the ring comes age. I haven’t worn my engament ring in 15yrs. I took it off when our first was born due to not wanting accidentally scratch our daughter. I never put it back on.

The size/cost of ring doesn’t matter. What matters is that the two of you want to spend your life together. Your life together is not off to a good start if you’re annoyed by how much money he spent on you for a gift based on his income.

I would feel insulted if he assumed I’m materialistic and cost of the ring matters at all for our relationship.

What do you make, OP?

There are many charming and beautiful rings on Etsy, made of noble metals and with comfortable, well-rounded bands, that are not expensive because they do not employ large precious stones. My favorites are the naturalistic ones with twigs or leaves, and a little precious or semi-precious stone as an accent.

I would infinitely prefer one of those to a more expensive, boring, standard ring bought from a brick and mortar jeweler at a huge mark-up. My husband proposed decades ago, when neither of us had any knowledge of jewelry, and I regret my boring diamond ring.

You can always ask to pick something, OP. That's what I did, except that we went to a regular jewelry store and not a cool Etsy store...

This is what he feels he can afford, so he definitely didn't want to go ring shopping with you, since I'd bet the house you would have picked out something far more expensive.

If you love him, the ring shouldn't matter.

Would you feel insulted if a man proposed to you with a cheap engagement ring? Like under $10000 and he makes 300-400k.
