All real Americans know that school should always start after Labor Day. August is peak summer.

If you want to get a bad reputation, this is how you do it. Don’t bother the school asking for an explanation. The calendar is set. Parent feedback is not asked for, so don’t bother them with yours or demand explanations. Omg.

St. Mary’s? Our family has been there over 10 years, and they always started the Monday before Labor Day until fall 2020 when they started after Labor Day due to COVID classroom prep. This school year they started two Mondays before Labor Day. No idea why it’s after Labor Day for this coming fall. The first week was always kind of a joke though, with 11:30 dismissals on three of the five school days. It looks like the calendar for next year has 11:30 dismissal the first day but regular schedule every other day the first week so that seems better.

Ours is always August and will be next year too. Only 4 weeks of school to go!

Ours has always started the 3rd week of August too.

I don’t think they shorten the school year at all. It’s measured in days (180 I think), not length. They will shorten breaks, lose snow days, etc to cover the amount of days required over the course of the school year, no matter when they start.

Not sure what school you’re referencing, but a bunch in our area have always started after Labor Day and still do.

Every parent I spoke with says this school started around 23 august forever.

Not all arlington catholic schools. Ours starts late august, like last year.

The DMV public schools are the schools that shorten the school learning time. With all the teacher professional days, half days and the snow days for no snow. Catholic schools get more learning time than public schools hands-down and they’re also in school less time. Definitely coming from public school.
