Jurassic Park is a good one

I recently watched Shawshank Redemption with my 15yo and it led to some great discussions. Obviously there is violence, implied rape etc so you'd have to know if it's okay for your 13yo or not.

Charade, Rear Window, Dial M for Murder, The Man Who Knew Too Much are older but my kids all enjoyed them.

Jurassic park sets the foundation for movies still being made. Top Gun because of cultural references. Same for good James Bond. Same for original Terminator. Stand By Me— timeless.

It’s also long, and violent. Not that Jurassic Park isn’t violent, but a 13 yo might have more fun watching dinosaurs eat people than a mob hit

I don’t know about The Godfather, but I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey as an adult and thought it was one of the slowest movies I’d ever seen.

I would definitely lean towards something like Jurassic Park over The Godfather, but obviously you know your kid better than us. Maybe something like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Inception, Die Hard, Terminator? Not all classics, but perhaps more likely to appeal to a 13-year-old.

Our younger 8 year old DS will be gone for an event all day. We want to take advantage and watch a couple movies that are too intense for our younger one. I’m thinking things like Godfather, Jurassic Park, John Grisham movies. What would you watch? We are open to dramas, mysteries, thrillers, but not horror. Staying away from super hero movies or other new movies that he may just watch with his friends.
