I am getting soapstone because i've always wanted it, but the designer is totally against it. He wants me to do marble-look quartz. This is the same quartz every flipped house gets and I am sick of looking at it.

If I didn't care about resale, laminate--ours has held up so well and it's quite affordable. I also like stainless steel or recycled aluminum for that reason.

We'll probably do eco by consentino because it looks a little more modern and it's made from recycled materials. Or maybe Paperstone.

Quartzite. I've done 2 kitchens with it and love it.

I love our granite. But I would never design a kitchen to be “in.” I actually think you should try to intentionally avoid anything too “current” unless you’re a flipper.

Which quartzite are you using? We have quartzite and I adore it, but we have one of the "harder" ones vs. the ones that etches easily because it is like marble. So durable and lovely.

Ultimately, we discarded granite because it can look dated (but some slabs are great), quartz because I worry it will look dated once people start recognizing the patterns and marble because it is too soft.

Love soapstone, but concerned about the durability

In terms of current look -- any granite is out. Quartz is in. Soapstone is great but had durability issues.

Love the look. If you dropped a pan there would be a dent.

Sealed granite. Had them at my old house and loved them.

Quartz then granite then marble.

We have granite because we fell in love with our slab. It has a lot of white and quartz in it.

Careful as lots of quartzite is not labeled correctly and is pretty soft and not much different than marble.

Probably quartz for the durability or a granite that doesn’t need to be sealed.

We're going with quartzite! Natural stone but more durable than marble.
