Does College Vine take into account intended major? If not, it won’t really apply for CS and engineering at many places.

PP...it does allow you to enter that info. I believe you.

It was overly pessimistic for my DS22. He was accepted to a couple of schools that gave him 6% chance. He has high stats but is otherwise unremarkable.

Thank you. Yes, obviously if it says my child has a 9% chance of admission to Brown (which it does), then rejection is the expected outcome.

It is currently saying 77% chance at Emerson, 58% chance at Oberlin, and 36% chance at Vassar (as examples). 93% chance at Muhlenberg. I used unweighted GPA, which I assume is correct? I'm making some assumptions as DD is a sophomore. She took the PSATs, and I know her historic standardized test scores, so I extrapolated. I assumed staying the course of ECs, though they could be a bit stronger or weaker by senior year. I know how many IB classes she plans to take.

I want to give DD a list of schools to consider for college visits next year. Is it reasonable to mention Vassar? I think she'd freaking love it, but I don't want to set her up for a high reach/out of reach school - and we won't have time for unlimited college visits.

You don’t provide stats to know if reasonable but among reaches, that’s a more reasonable one so if she’s in the ballpark, I’d definitely visit. If she loves it, you could consider applying ED.

College vine said that all of the schools my student applied to were a safety. He ended up getting rejected at one.

Actually of all the colleges he put in to College Vine, the school they said he had the highest chance he had at being accepted at, was the one that rejected him!

Wow - was this an extremely competitive school? Or is it possible it was yield protection?

no...it was Auburn. I've read on here that they received a lot more applications than previous years, but still it was a little surprising.

They claim accuracy, but I wonder if they are actually on the money, were accurate up until 2 years ago, or were always optimistic.

Any experiences to share?
