Imago - and then find someone that you both like and seeing individual therapists at the same time as well. Opening the door to greater intimacy and trust also triggers the secret panel side door to increased efforts at hiding and evading for some people.

If you think you even might want a marriage therapist, start looking now. Many of them are completely booked after 2 1/2 years of couples being cooped up together.

Totally worth it. My DH and I have very different styles of communicating and we really just needed to get on the same page, which we were able to do with a third party. Ours was through my EAP, so unfortunately don't have a recommendation for you, but I would search the Psychology Today database.

3-4 sessions helped me realize the marriage was irreparable- which was worth it to me because I wasn’t able to come to that conclusion on my own. It was also helpful just generally in terms of understanding how people communicate.

I feel like we've hit a point where we're talking in circles and it's been like that for a looooong time. Seriously considering counseling. What are your experiences? Did it help your marriage at all or was it just prolonging the inevitable? Can you recommend anyone in the Arlington/ Fairfax/ Alexandria area? TIA.
