I wish they existed when I was young.

Heck, I wish they were around when my daughter first got her period, at 10 years old. It is so much simpler for young kids.

I brought Ruby Red swim bottoms as a back up for DD if her period came while on spring break vacation. It did and she used them in the hotel pool with no issues. I admit, I was doubtful but surprised how well they worked. She was never in for longer than an hour but no leaks. TMI but she used a light colored towel to dry off after since it’s all we had and there definitely were not leaks.

At home she uses Thinx for school and puts on a pad over if it’s her heavier days.

Period underwear are amazing and I wish to god they had been around when I was young and started my period because trying to use a tampon at 10 was incredibly terrifying and unsuccessful, and pads were like diapers for my sporty self.
Anways, I'm a fan of Aisle. Lots of options for flow and cut.

I use my period underwear without a pad or tampon and they do the job. I made sure to get high absorbancy ones and they work great.

Some are designed to be back up and some are specifically not (for a pad at least).

Who can get through the day on their period with only one pad or one pair of underwear?

Which brands do you recommend?

Agree with everything posted above. My kid wears them to sleep without a pad and on the last two days of her period with no pad.

Similar here. Teen wears with a pad to school then removes pad midday and just wears the underwear for the remainder of the day. On light days, it’s just the underwear.

My daughter wears them to school and has never had a problem. However, there are many different brands and absorbencies so if she is wearing them alone you will need to buy ones with higher absorbency.

In theory they can. BUT, would you wear one pad for the entire day? It is pretty gross to not change them mid day at least IMO, even if they are not "full"

I use them regularly myself and they do the job - they don’t need to be reserved to backup use only.

The main issue I have with them is that you have to rinse them multiple times and depending on the brand, potentially air dry. So the teen needs to be responsible enough to attend to the cleaning of the underwear promptly. Mine wasn’t up to it but I know others who are.

I bought some period underwear for my young teen with the idea that she'd wear a pad or a tampon and they would serve as a back-up (where we these when I was growing up?) but she wears them alone .
