How is the kid getting home after this period of hanging out? Getting a ride home with a high school kid would make it a no for me. Getting picked up after a half hour of hanging out or walking a few blocks home might be okay depending on the kid and the friends.

Even if your kid isn't into all the "bad things"... where do you think a good think for creepy people to look for victims would be? A dark parking lot with kids more interested in their phones than their surroundings- probably.

Are you saying that if kids are outside but not at your house, they are hooking up, drinking, or smoking pot?

Potentially of course they are. What else are they doing, comparing baseball cards?

Talking, hanging out, flirting, horsing around.

Possible. But I have 2 older teens and eight grade is when they fast crowd gets fast. They take advantage of their parents’ assumption that they we innocent. This scenario, late at night after stores are closed is suspect. It’s like roaming the neighborhood park at 11:00 pm.

+100

My oldest experienced the end of 8th during Covid 2020 so it wasn't an issue. My 8th grader and his friends are tying to pull all kinds of cr*p. The parents that have been around the block a few times and also know the culture are the ones that have started denying sleepovers and these kind of 'random' requests. They are really pushing boundaries and a lot of stuff is going on.

I agree--if they want to hang they can go to someone's backyard/house.

I agree. I would let him hang out for 30 minutes after the movie is done, specially if stores are closed.

I would allow it. What does open stores have to do with not misbehaving? How did you raise your child that you do not trust him?

What time is the movie ending and what’s the location? I would not let mine hang out in a closed mall parking lot and never at night. If there was a park or something and it was 6pm on a nice evening like tonight that would be different.

My 8th grader wants to hang out after the movie ends in the parking lot. Nearby stores are all closed. Would you allow this?
