Yorktown popular girls seem to care a lot about athletics and being well off enough to buy Lululemon and other high-status clothes. Some can be mean, but usually within their own circles. But YHS has plenty of quirky kids who have their own activities and friends. If you want to avoid the big school experience, you can also apply for HB Woodlawn and/or Arlington Tech lotteries, which are both more inclusive than the big high schools.

Yorktown is cliquey, but my somewhat quirky kids have found their tribes and haven't experienced bullying

Mean girls are everywhere.

The good thing about Yorktown, W-L and Wakefield is that they are so large that *most* kids find their "people." I say most kids, because I do know of a few kids who had trouble making friends at these schools, but they seem to be outliers.

The problem Kid at Swanson was at ashlawn. Nothing to do with hamm boundaries.

Have had kids at both WL and Yorktown, no issues with bullying at either.

I’ve had 3 kids go thru Yorktown. All varied interests and personalities. No bullying issues that we’ve experienced.

W-L is known for a better culture of inclusion.

I've had two go through W-L, one now in college, the other a junior, and never had an issue with bullying. I've asked them about it over the years and both said they aren't aware of it ever being an issue for kids they know (doesn't mean it never happens). Both came from a MS that doesn't send many kids to W-L and they had no trouble making new friends. That was DD's biggest disappointment with covid, that as a freshman she'd just made a bunch of new friends and lost those connections when they went back online. But she seemed to pick things back up easily in junior year.

Daughter has been bullied at her private MS. Looking to make a switch to Yorktown or WL. Does one or the other offer a better/more supportive environment, culture of inclusion? Want to mKe sure she doesn’t go from the frying pan to the fire.
