+1. What/where is Meridian? Never heard of it.

FCC renamed whatever founding father high school.

OK well you’re comparing two different counties. You can’t go wrong with either of the Arlington pyramids. But most people who are in Arlington probably aren’t going to recommend Falls Church city. Nothing wrong with it, it’s just a personal preference.

Uh, we live in Arlington and would love to move to FCC. We just couldn’t afford it.

+1, live in house zoned for Yorktown in very unwalkable part of Arlington. We would love to move to FCC but can’t afford the 1.5 to 2 needed for a 4 bedroom. OP all these schools are good. The FCC school is less socio economically diverse than N Arlington schools, especially WL and Wakefield. On the plus side it’s basically a small private school.

All are well-regarded. FCC is much smaller. APS high schools are larger and overcrowded. Not as familiar with FCC but I think it just has IB and very few AP options.

YHS and W-L do have a different feel and culture. W-L has the IB option plus AP classes. YHS "just" has AP. W-L is more diverse, better regarded for special ed services, and some people like the feel of the school better than YHS.

I guess it depends on what part of Arlington you live in. Not many FCC houses are out of price for the Yorktown pyramid families. It’s just a personal preference.

But why is WL IB so coveted?

The IB diploma is great for college applications. Problem is less than 100 kids per year actually graduate with full IB. For the rest, it really makes no difference. WL is more diverse. Also larger.

Just be aware that WL has had 600 seats added, so it’s “permanent” capacity is near 3000

As the schools get overcrowded again WL will be significantly bigger than the other schools but with only most expansion of common spaces/facilities.
