Nope, floors are good! Plenty of space to figure out how their limbs work and basically no suffocation risk. I have wall to wall carpets though; if I had hardwood I might put him down on his play mat for a little extra padding. My four month old is dozing next to me as I type.
Carpets are a greater risk than a crib. Please just use a crib or bassinet.
