That's unusual that there aren't at least a handful of kids attending the surrounding neighborhood ESs.

Kids usually go on to make (new) friends they see and interact w/ everyday/very often so unless you make a coordinated effort to setup weekly playdates or are in the Scout troop or soccer team then most likely prek friendships start to fizzle.

Fwiw, when my kid started Kinderg, he totally forgot about preschool. He couldn't even remember his teachers' names and I had to show him pictures of his class to jog his memory of kids who went on to a different ES or had moved.

The school is close to my house but it is a private school feeder. There are some kids going to public school but not the same one as ours.

My son is in 5th grade, his best buddy is a girl his age he's known since they were 2. She went to daycare and preschool with him but they went to different elementary schools. They're still joined at the hip, they hang out at the park every day when homework is done, have sleepovers every Friday night and even go on vacation with each other's family. They're like siblings and we've become close with her parents over the years too.

My son is 12. He and his best friend met in PK3 and they still hang out a few times a month but talk and play minecraft/Roblox everyday.

Youngest- yes with several through elementary. Then in middle school they all found other interests and friend groups.

Older kid, no. Younger kid who is currently in 4th is still friends with one girl, but that’s only because I became very close friends with her mother.

We aren't military but live in a town next to a base, so many of the military families live in our town. I can think of 3 kids my son became buddies with in preschool, mom friended me on Facebook, we had park playdates, texted each other to meet up at kid activities, etc etc. One kid I even babysat 1 day a week after kindergarten for 6 months. And when they were relocated to another base, the mom unfriended me and I never heard from them again. Isn't that weird?

Me again. To clarify, I mean at different times over the 2 years after preschool, each of these families moved away, each mom unfriended me, and none of them ever answered my texts again.

My 8 yo is still best friends with a girl she met in 2 yo preschool. They haven't been in school together since they were 3 yo. It helps that their younger siblings are also good friends and we get along with the parents. Both families also host au pairs and for several rounds our au pairs have been good friends. It wouldn't work as well if we didn't all get along.

Sure. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

If they didn’t go to the same elementary school?

Not one of my child’s preschool friends will be going to her elementary school.

I have 2 kids who are older and we stayed friends with a few through kindergarten and first. Then we ended up moving so…
