Most baffling is when in the text of the profile they reveal "oh yeah I'm really 61 even though the profile says 54" like that's supposed to make it better.

This might be it. Thanks.

When I hit 50, I changed my age to 48 only because I know people sort by age when looking. So once I was in that 50 bracket, I'd be filtered out of a lot of searches. Once I met someone, I'd come clean immediately. I know, everyone says, "I don't look my age," but for me it's really true. So I never had a problem with it.

Late 50s male. When OLD, I found that close to half of the women 50+ listed their age as 3-5 years younger than in real life. You should not do it, as it sets a potential relationship off on the wrong foot.

[Also, about half had profile photos that were clearly several years old.]

People lie about everything in OLD. Pictures, filters, jobs, height, weight. Why would age be any different?

Over 50–it will be hard to keep that up. Aging hits hard by 55.

Both my now-husband and I lied about our age on Bumble (we disclosed within 15 minutes of our first days). We were both mid-to-late thirties and said we were in our early thirties because we’re both fit and active and observed a huge drop-off in these qualities for our friends and associates around our age. Luckily, we are still both fit and active!

Because they delude themselves into thinking they’d be attractive to younger women if they met them in person. It’s also a sign that they don’t respect the fact that women are entitled to their own preferences, which is itself a red flag.

Insecure and pathological liars. It's all you need to know. Not worth getting involved with.

Man here and women do it too. You can guess why -- they want to meet a certain demographic who is looking for that age.

I keep running into men in their 30s and 40s lie about their age on dating apps. I’m a woman in my 40s and I don’t lie about my age. Does anybody have any insight about how common this is—because I keep running into it.
