You must be someone in MCPS central office who is worried because Ms. Peetz has been getting interesting information and story leads by cultivating various sources in different ways, including via social media posts. You know, kinda like a journalist. But that's clearly not your line of work.

No, far from. Just a parent who gets sick of her making repeated requests to join or group.

She just wants to expand her audience as much as possible. Her work is first-rate and hard hitting. If you don't like it, you can ignore and refrain from commenting?

You have really low standards.

Can you please look into MCPS Special Education services? Many students fell behind during online learning and MCPS still isn’t providing compensatory services that have been awarded through IEP and complaint processes. MCPS is now bringing in attorneys to IEP meetings with families unrepresented. It’s a bully mindset versus doing what is best for the student. MCPS also needs to address key vacancies that affect students with disabilities including school psychologists, special educators, school counselors, para educators, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and pupil personnel workers.

Ok, glad you think so. Her work is fine but she is intrusive when not welcome.

"When not welcome"? Ma'am (or sir), this is a public forum and she has the right to post if she pleases, especially since it is directly related to educational topics discussed here. Also, it's "unwelcome", which she is quite the opposite of in this line of work.

Thank you for the work you do, Caitlyn! I’m an MCPS staff member and the parent of two students and your reporting is so helpful in both roles.

Caitlynn Peetz, senior reporter for Bethesda Beat here. Just popping in to drop a plug for the Beat's new(ish) weekly newsletter focused on MCPS and Montgomery County education. I author this newsletter that we launched in February, and every week I pick a topic to dive into a bit. So far, we've done some MCPS history, policy issues, hot topics of the week, etc. This section has exclusive analysis, insight or perspectives that you won't find elsewhere, including our regular coverage.
We solicit reader questions to answer, curate the top education stories of the week and have a section where I drop links to resources, and interesting articles and research studies I'm reading.

I know everyone who comes to this blog is invested and interested in the county's public schools, so I think this resource would be beneficial to you.

About 3,000 people have subscribed so far and I'm super grateful to everyone who has. If you haven't yet, here's a link to this week's newsletter so you can take a look: https://mailchi.mp/bethesdamagazine/school-notes-041422?e=04f98dd010

(We didn't do the reader question section this week, but here's an example of what that version looks like: https://mailchi.mp/bethesdamagazine/school-notes-040722?e=7d55b69392)

Subscribing is free, so if you're interested, you can go to this link: https://bethesdamagazine.com/subscribe-to-our-education-newsletter/

Newsletter hits inboxes at 6 a.m. on Thursdays. Hope to "see" you then!

With gratitude,

Caitlynn Peetz

Thanks for everything you do to hold MCPS accountable, Caitlynn!
