Why would you take a baby to Sibley’s ER? Go to PM Pediatrics or Childrens.

911 takes you to nearest ER and this is where you go in an emergency. You do not think which one is best?


Not true on always doing closest. Ambulance took my son to Childrens during anaphylaxis not the closest.

That isn't always true, sometimes you are able to weigh in given the situation. For example, my friend's mom was just taken to the hospital and because of certain medical histories she had, she was able to request that she be taken to Suburban. She basically lives across the street from Sibley.

Always always always take infants to a pediatric-focused hospital. It's just night and day.

Our pediatrician (Friendship Pediatrics) said never take your baby to Sibley. They recommend Suburban or Children's.

I usually go to Suburban hospital. Once my son had to be transferred from there but there are fewer people/shorter wait times.

We used to live near GW with our DC under 12. I’ve never seen a baby in the ER there. On a couple of occasions, they examined our DC in the ER to give us an idea of what was going on. And then recommended transfer to Children’s or Georgetown. Georgetown is good, but the ER population is a broad slice of humanity, and sometimes it can be disturbing for a child.

I would think your pediatrician would have a recommendation?

If your baby is requiring frequent urgent medical attention in an ER I would ask the doctor managing care who they think you should go to. If you need high level (NICU) care Childrens or GW. If you are using ER for urgent but not emergency care I would avoid an ER bc Covid is kicking back up and use urgent care or an after hours line with your pediatrician. We also had great care at Right Time Pediatrics in Greenbelt. I would insist on waiting in my car to avoid the waiting room germs.


GW does not readmit babies. Do not take your baby to GW.

We had an ER visit with our first at Sibley where he was born and received outstanding care. He has been born there the week before.

We were told to go to the Pediatric ER at Suburban. Unless it was an ambulance call situation.

I'm sorry you have to ask this question.

If it's something complicated, then Children's, which has a horrendous wait but is worth it.

Otherwise if you hate Sibley I'd say Suburban.
