Why can’t the teen keep the car after the internship? What is he doing after the summer when it’s over?

I would call CarMax. I know they will buy back cars.

Pretty dangerous esp for teen. You don't get to ride them like a bike.

This may be the best option.

Perhaps there are places in your area that rent cars for a long-term.
The longer you rent them for - the cheaper the daily rate is.

What about something like a Vespa? It's way cheaper than a car, and easier to handle on unfamiliar roads than a bike.

In this market, you'd be better off buying something that has depreciated as much as it's going to and then reselling it. I'd be looking at late model Japanese sedans with a lot of miles

The first one will not work.
I did not consider an electric bike. I will look into this; however, my son is likely not comfortable riding a bike on the roads, and I don't know if his route would be conducive to it.

I am looking for a very inexpensive car for my teen to use for a summer internship. He will be in a location without great public transportation or ride sharing services. The car needs to be reasonably safe and reliable and would only be driven less than 50 miles per week. What price and makes/models should I consider? What is the best place to shop for this and not expect a "lemon".

Depending on the investment, at the end of the summer, ideally we could resell, donate it or give away.
