Of course it is.

For someone interested in health policy, Rice has the advantage of having the largest medical complex in the country across the street. Cornell’s medical school and related hospitals are 250 miles away in NYC.

There is one huge advantage for pre-meds who can establish residency in Texas to open up a magic portal to lots of affordable medical schools.

Cornell, 100 times over.

Funny DC and a close HS friend are at those two schools. They constantly try to find reasons why each school is better (in a teasing way). Both are happy. Both are Engineers. Good luck

These schools are in completely different environments. Does your kid want small town and cold or big city and warm?

This is a great problem to have. You can’t go wrong.

If your kid wants a bigger school, cold climate and better winter sports, he’ll like Cornell. Cornell may be at the bottom of the Ivy ranking but it’s still prestigious.

If he prefers smaller school, residential college system, diversity and warm climate, he’ll like Rice.

As far as public policy, both school can get you into top grad schools or law schools. Rice has their own think tank, Baker institute which should hook him up well for internships in DC. Texas may actually be good for you to understand how others out of DC bubble think. If you want to be on pre-med track, both schools are solid there as well. Cornell may give you better networking opportunities.

Ithaca can be suffocating and depressing for some but others love it. Houston can be annoying for some and fun for others. It’s about what kind of friends and personal experiences you’ll have at either place.

Really depends on the kid. My kid is happy at Cornell. He would not want to be in Texas.

Unless you want your child to be happy, in which case, Rice.

I really don't think your DC can go wrong with this choice. I would 100% visit both and let DC decide what s/he prefers.

Hi DC has a choice between Cornell and Rice. Public Policy (possibly health related).
DC is doing own research but wanted to see if any of you had thoughts.
