THe fact that a 25 yr old RN can't figure out how to clean up after herself worries me more. Is this who you want taking care of you? Eek.

OP, I'm a control freak/OCD/clean freak and if this babysitter works for you otherwise (and being able to have a babysitter that you are comfortable with trumps all, imo) then let the dishes go. Seriously.

This is a “you” problem.

That would match my expectation for a sitter. Dirty dishes in the sink is fine. I would prefer to load them into the dishwasher myself. If you have a different expectation, you should make that clear. But I think what she did was perfectly reasonable.

She doesn't know what goes in the dw at your house and what doesn't, whether it's clean or dirty, how you load it...

Just ask her to put her dirty dishes in the dishwasher. She will.

When we first started using our regular babysitter (she was a 19 year old college student), she didn’t know how to clean up after herself in the kitchen. We just viewed it as an opportunity for on the job learning. We were really explicit about what asked her to do after a meal and she learned pretty quickly. Just show your sitter the soap/sponge/towel and tell her where to put her dry dishes when she’s done.

As someone who did a lot of teenage babysitting, figuring out whether the dishwasher was clean or dirty, or where to put the dishes when they're drying, was really confusing. I was an anxious enough kid that I just didn't eat because it was too stressful.

Can you say "the dishwasher is dirty, please add your dishes when you're done" or something?

Normal? Our date night babysitter puts her drinking glasses and used plates in the sink. We have one baby who is asleep when the babysitter gets there and we pay for the sitter to Postmates her dinner. The kitchen is clean when she gets here. The baby hasn’t woken up once in the three times she’s sat for us.

Is this what they all do?
