Received a note our principal is leaving too. Not sure why she’s leaving but she is incredible. It must be the appropriate time to say you’re not coming back for schools.

Troll! She came in from outside of DCPS and applied for the position. She actually wanted to stay at Shepherd. I suspect she is exhausted because of COVID. She did a lot of heavy lifting including giving out her personal phone number to families during the pandemic. She was truly amazing during that time.

What?! Why would she be fired?

Well the good news there's probably dozens of families happy to take your spot.

HA! I'm not giving up the spots. But a good principle matters across the board so the uncertainty makes me nervous.

True. It’s hard to get a good principal and when they leave your chance of getting another one as good is low. Ask me how I know. It’s not like people are knocking down doors for the job in DCPS.

Absolutely true. My principal and I were talking about my future plans and she asked if I wanted to be a principal and I almost laughed in her face. DCPS treats their principals almost as poorly as their teachers.

She was hired as an interim, I don’t think she planned to stay very long. Huge lost for the community.

No explanation. I was wondering why she would send the announcement right before spring break, but there's a DCPS call on April 20th to learn about the new-principal-selection process. Any parents who have been through the principal selection process have good experiences?

What a huge loss for the community. She is a stellar leader. I hope we can find someone just as great. Huge shoes to fill IMO.
