I also vote not disney cruise with a 15 year old. Does your 15 year old have any trip ideas?

15 is WAY too old for Aulani AND a Disney cruise. You're reminiscing instead of being realistic about how old your son is/will be a year from now. Hawaii is always a great choice - Grand Wailea on Maui if you're looking to splurge. Mediterranean cruise is a good option if you haven't taken him to Europe yet. Add on a few days at the start or finish or both.

Hawaii is a long way to go. That said we are considering a trip and would definitely stay at the Aulani. I think they are doing some construction there now, though, so check on that to see when it will be done.

Take care of that bucket list! Go to Hawaii!

Then, in a few years you can revisit another Disney cruise if you like, or any other cruise.

Disney cruise. Or perhaps try Celebrity or Royal?

Ignore the cruise haters. My DH complained that “we weren’t cruise people” and basically pitched a fit when I booked our first Disney cruise. Long story short: it was the most relaxing trip we’ve ever taken with our kids. Plenty to do, or easy to just lounge around.

The flight to Hawaii is very long compared to flying to Miami or the Caribbean. That’s the biggest factor for me.

I’d look for an eastern or southern Caribbean itinerary—or even a Mediterranean cruise.

Hawaii, but the idea of a Disney cruise is my idea of hell so op and I are clearly have very different vacation styles.

I will say if you enjoy a cruise an are more into lounging around on vacation then Hawaii may not be the place for you. To me Hawaii is a place for adventure. We went to Maui and while it was incredible it wasn’t relaxing. Lots of driving to see everything. But we loved hiking, snorkeling, exploring various parts of the island , and surfing.

Agree with this. We were there last week and it was packed. I know Oahu is busier and it is Spring Break but when we walked around at 8 am almost all of the pool chairs were all reserved. And the outdoor space is covered in chairs. The pools looked fun and the man made reef snorkeling looked cool. But I wouldn’t want to travel all that way to be surrounded by so many people. We were staying next door at the Four Seasons with our three teens for a similar price but not nearly as crowded.

I would not do Disney Cruises for a teenager. Do another one.

Is the weather in June/July oppressively hot and humid? How are crowds in the summer in Maui and Oahu?

Go to Maui, I’m not sure a 15 year old would like the Disney resort in Hawaii. It’s crowded and expensive. We went for two days and it was enough.

You’ve already done the cruise. Go to Hawaii!

Also if we do Hawaii we’re considering either Disney Aulani or visiting Maui’s western coast.

Decisions decisions, sigh. We’ve done 1 cruise a few years ago and loved it. It was the Disney Fantasy. It was the single most relaxing vacation I’ve ever had since becoming a mom.

OTOH Hawaii is near the top of my bucket list, and April seems like a pleasant time to visit. It would definitely be a more adventurous trip than the cruise but I would steer it towards more relaxing for us than go-go-go.

Which would you choose? It looks like the weather would be perfect for both. Our DS will be 15.
