If SportsEngine is linked to gotsoccer, and merit-based rankings reduce the need to accumulate gotsoccer points and therefore enter gotsoccer-sponsored tourneys, then bingo. If all that is true, then I seriously doubt they left rights to the algorithm with YSR employees, and I also bet they added a noncompete.

I suspect the best way to get something similar is look to ranking organizations for other youth sports.

I have corresponded with the guy at YSR a few times in the past so I just sent an email to check in. He says the SportsEngine pulled the plug and all we can do it email SportsEngine to ask them to reconsider.

"I don't know why SportsEngine shut the site down. It was a big surprise to me. They didn’t give a reason, but I guess they are cost cutting. Sadly, this looks like the end of the road. At this point, all I can suggest is that you and your soccer friends write to SportsEngine to explain how much the service is valued."

I don't see an email address on the site other than this one: press@sportsengine.com.

someone come up with a new algorithm and get it rolling again
