Hill's and Silver Stars have been allowing parents for a while. We moved from Dynamite to Hill's and are really happy. My kid is young and I'm just not comfortable sending her into a black box with the history of abuse in the sport.

Masks are dropped April 1 per an email they sent last month. Also, it sounds like your child is rec level if you just started. You really don’t need photos or videos. Inevitably you end up filming other children on accident as they walk by or take their turn and that’s just obnoxious. Also, the viewing area is small so you’re not really getting high quality shots unless you’re up against the glass.

And yes, as a former gymnast and now the parent to two DDs, gymnastics gossip by parents can be brutal at all gyms. It’s a catty sport the higher you get since there are such few spots for the truly great athletes.

I'm guessing the actual student gymnasts feel some relief not being eyeballed needlessly by 40-year-old Susie's on the bleaches who hate their poor form daughter's competition.

Good on the gym for protecting the athletes from unnecessary criticism. I'd ban all parents except for quarterly performances, all recitals, and video calls in the future.

Some of these kids are probably trying to get into college with these skills. I’m sure their parents would love to film them, but after two years they haven’t been able to watch their progress. Insane IMO and those parents need to be ones sending emails and making calls.

There's enough other weird stuff with gymnastics that still not being allowed in at this point would give me serious pause. I'd at the very least ask management what the plan is going forward.

In any times other than the pandemic this is a violation of Safe Sport and would be reportable but I know there are some exceptions now for pandemic safety measures. I would definitely find out the plan going forward as this cannot be allowed forever. I have a daughter who practices 9 hours a week (different gym) and I rarely stay but the point is that I can if I want to check out what's going on.

Not every parent has to work. Some people put kids in classes so the kids can do something they enjoy and progress at it.

What are they hiding?

I understood it at first, but then we got vaccines and I thought, can’t they only let vaccinated parents in? Then fall came and I thought, okay maybe after the surge. But here we are in spring and still no plan to let us in. Masks are still required too, which is annoying because these are children exercising. They also put up a passive aggressive sign in the WINTER asking us not to let our cars sit idle. Well gymnastics, it’s 20 degrees and windy, so if you don’t give me access to your heat, then I need to get it from turning on my car.

Is there any place left in the US that isn’t letting parents in to watch their kids do after school activities? This is a popular gymnastics place in Rockville.
