Dear OP. Happy to hear you liked CNU. We have not visited a second time but it will probably be the one for my DC based on factors such as cost and small classes. Knowing there is a lot of individual support is reassuring.

Don’t go with GMU or VCU. Your DS may get completely overwhelmed. JMU would be slightly better but it increased the enrollment so much and lost the small school atomosphere. I won’t recommend.

Thanks, everyone! He liked the CNU campus and had some nice meetings with faculty at the admitted freshmen day this past weekend. We can probably squeeze in another campus visit to UMW since it is spring break.

My son loved UMW. I loved that it was nearby, in-state tuition and we could pay for it. He played D3 Lax and married his college sweetheart. 12 years later, he's gainfully employed and they have four children.

Yup if size of school matters and he wants smaller it’s UMW or CNU.

Concur with UMW or CNU as your best options. And they're very different, so it should be an easy choice between the two.

Agree with previous posters who directed you to CNU and UMW. Know kids at both who are very happy there and feel well supported.

I'd pick UMW. As others have said it is known for lots of faculty attention.

I wish my DC who has ADHD and mental health issues had picked UMW over W&M. I think it would have been a much more supportive environment.

Otherwise, maybe JMU? Everyone seems so happy there. Cost-wise, it's also a bargain unless your DC got merit $ elsewhere.

I 2nd UMW - they have good programs and are known to work with students, have more faculty attention.

My son has applied to and was accepted by five in-state schools (CNU, GMU, JMU, UMW, VCU). We have attended admitted students' days for all five.

Now it is decision time. He does not do well in online courses. He has ADHD and I think large classes would not work well for him.

His major is likely cyber security with a national security or poli sci minor.

Any thoughts on those five schools, and things he should consider when deciding where to attend?
