I know I'm not alone in this, as I've talked with neighborhood parents, looked at test scores, otherwise did my homework. That's also taking into account special needs of my own child, that I'm not going to disclose. A majority of the options in DC are charters and must be lottery-ed into as well, so that provides no certainty.
My question is: for those of you in MCPS that came from DC for the schools, at what grade did you move, and why?
We did it at 3rd and K and couldn't be happier with MCPS. The youngest is now at TPMS and the oldest is at Blair SMCS. There are a lot of great opportunities for anyone who is interested in MCPS between things like the CES and magnets. Although parents who expect the school to raise their children are often unhappy.

Completely the opposite experience. Was way behind in math from DCPS in 2nd grade. Caught up in time for Highly gifted program and TPMS magnet in MCPS. If we had waited any longer to move, it would not have worked out.
We moved for 5th and 2nd grade from a DC charter. The curriculum at that point for math was several grade levels ahead at their DC charter. Both my kids were bored. They subsequently got into the CES (younger one) and magnet program at TPMS (older one) and are finding it very easy. They got a truly great foundation at their old school. Socially it’s been harder for the one who joined in 5th. The schools are really big and it’s been harder than expected to make neighborhood friends. We moved because we needed a better middle school option.

LOL. We can tell you're lying.
