My kid is in CES and the pressure is intense. The teacher seems set on breaking the kids with an excessive volume of work. I’m definitely in favor of doing things more in depth but the focus on volume is inappropriate for this age. Kid has made good friends so won’t drop out, but it’s not as fabulous as folks here would have you believe and if I’d known then what I know now I’d probably have said no.

Not our experience at all. I have a fifth grader at Barnsley and while there's a lot of writing, the workload is not what I'd call intense. Kids have plenty of time in class to do the majority of their work. Not much homework if they use their time wisely at school. There are a handful of larger projects that require doing work at home -- maybe 1 a quarter.

Our school is of no use. If you talk to them, it will look like no one there knows what they teach. No information is provided to the parents. They add caveat stating that it depends on the child's performance. It drive us crazy [/quote

They only talk about ELP, FARM and other programs 95% of the time. It is a waste of time for parents with kids who are not in the ELP and other programs

I've heard some people turn it down because their kids don't like writing and there's a lot of writing in CES.

Friend of mine had her oldest go to CES this year. The home school has a string pta and peer group etc. siblings go to homeschool. Oldest kid went from Sept to the end of Jan then switched back to homeschool. CES just wasn’t all that great, not a great Principal non existent pta so less after school clubs and stuff like that.

Yes, home school has ELC, with great ELC and compacted math teachers.

No, not very happy, partly complaining of boredom, but it's also a tough year for "classroom management" and reintegration.

No, don't know who is going, but I have a sense that half their friends and friendliest acquaintances wouldn't even be in the pool.

We have other reasons not to send them, but I was more looking for experiences of turning it down. In addition to why, also how that decision was received, etc.
