We'll be listing our house soon after moving in 1/21...for us it's a relocation/job change. It definitely happens, especially in the DC area.

You can also inquire why they are leaving directly through your realtor. If the answer is something concrete like “they unexpectedly had twins” or “their jobs moved them to Oklahoma,” that’s more reassuring than something vague like “they decided to move to a different area.”

That said like the others have said, there could be any number of reasons for the quick resale. More likely a personal issue rather than something wrong with the house - unless the history of the house shows a history of quick resales over the years. then I would be concerned.

Google the names of the owners and look them up on linkedin, facebook etc. Maybe you can find some clues as to whether it's job related, a divorce, etc.

Our neighbors recently did this because the husband got an amazing job offer on the west coast. There’s nothing wrong with the house. Get a good inspector that is NOT your realtor’s guy.

Is this a red flag? We are thinking of making an offer on a home in VA but the house was sold in winter 2021 to the current owners. I am trying to calm myself thinking they might want to take advantage of the market but it wasn’t cheap last year… for the listing price, they are not even profiting from it. I understand that it is impossible to know their “real” reason but I’m scared to buy a home with problems.
