I have seen both painted. We looked at a couple houses that had decorative stringers which I’d have definitely painted the same color as the wall to make them disappear

I think stringers should be the same color as the risers and baseboards.

2400sq feet, all walls/ceilings/moldings/windows/trim/radiators painted with 2-3 coats
Traditional floor plan so lots of walls . Also had multiple old wall speakers, phone lines, mounting brackets, etc removed and drywall patched.
9.9k ($7400 labor + $2500 paint/materials ) Paint has become very pricey

Yep so if you're going to paint a "typical 4 bedroom house" let's say 2700sqft then you're at $10K

The same guys you pay thousands to when you use a licensed company are the same ones you can find on Craigslist for $$400 a day. If you have the courage to go this way and buy your own fancy paint, you will save thousands.

We got estimates from 3K to 14K for our 1800 SQ house. If you are fine with an uninsured/unlicensed person it will be much less expensive. Also, some of it matters whether you are doing ceilings and how many coats. We ended up paying about 7K....1 coat, no ceilings, licensed and insured.

It cost me 1700 to do 500 SF 2 months ago. This was for 2 rooms, no trim, walls only.

Paint prices have really increased a lot over the last year, as have labor prices obviously. I would budget $10K.

The paint on the stairs is a nice touch - I think you're talking about the risers?

I am considering painting the interior of an older house we just moved into. The previous owners did a once over with cream paint and have not updated the trim in a long time. We have a typical 4-bedroom, kitchen, hallway, family room and dining room set up. Anyone have some recent prices to share...I realize it's all relative with paint, who you use, etc. so I am just looking for a ballpark. Any tips you want to share also appreciated!

And what's your thoughts on painting hardwood stairs white on the inside part? Maybe there's a name for this, I see it everywhere.
