Aphasia doesn’t always come with cognitive decline but it looks like his family is stating that his does. I don’t like the conflation of aphasia with cognitive issues because I know someone who has aphasia but normal cognitive function and it’s very challenging, he is treated very poorly by many who conflate the two.

Yes, my father had early onset Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and had aphasia. Heartbreaking.

As written by his own family, it comes with cognitive impairment. It's hard to tease out what's due to what, but the end result is that he's generally impaired, and also speech-impaired. It's sad, but then a lot of elderly folks have something, and he's had a wonderfully successful life, so... I don't think we should feel too bad for him. It looks as though he was a decent enough person that his ex, his children and his current wife are all taking care of him. Wishing him a peaceful retirement.

There have been rumors of dementia for a while. He has been unable to remember lines or his part in his recent films. It's unsurprising but still sad to hear this.

Terribly and I can see why his family his making this public now. He was prolific. They wouldn't want him to diminish his portfolio by struggling in roles or just dropping out.

His daughters, second wife, and first wife - Demi Moore - all posted the same thing. Aphasia usually comes about from a stroke or tumor. It must be serious.
