OP here - thanks for the suggestions! I didn't have a cooler with me (at work), but the frozen vegetables idea is a great one!

Sadly they were out of half & half at Trader Joe's, so the plan is thwarted. But I appreciate the reassurance and suggestions nevertheless.

Any day under 60 degrees out (but especially under 50, and in the shade), I wouldn't worry about it. It may get hotter in the car, but not much more than room temperature, and it's not all day.

I agree with having an insulated bag around, doesn't even have to be a cooler-- I always do just because I was forced to buy one at Aldi or something one day.

Frozen peas/corn is a fine idea, probably not necessary, but especially helpful on warmer days-- then you can just serve them for dinner thawed within the next couple of days.

Yes, it's pretty cold now. But, since you know you are going grocery shopping why not take an insulated bag to help keep it cool? I started keeping a small cooler in my car for unexpected grocery trips just in case I bought frozen or refrigerated it would be OK if I ran an errand or two after shopping.

Trying to plan a grocery trip later today. All items are non-refrigerated except the half and half. If I leave it in a shady spot in my car on this cold day, will it be fine (approx 2 hours, maybe slightly more) or will it be a waste?
