Designers messed up by trying to lure everyone into neutral gray and off white, granite/quartz and stainless steel appliances because it's timeless. They've essentially put themselves out of business as there is no need to remodel.

White and gray in sales is solely to provide a blank slate for buyers. It feels bright and clean and ready for most people to move their furniture into. Many people don't have the ability to imagine their own furniture or life in a house that is filled with "personality" via paint colors and crammed with furniture.

Do people actually redecorate their homes every time a new article comes our suggesting bright grass green is the new "it color" and so on?

Once a look hits real estate in a big way (especially new construction), it's already been done among pro designers for several years.

White and grey went away years ago for people who are super into design. They went back to wood a while ago. You can definitely find threads here about that.

But as we always say here, you aren't beholden to what is cutting edge. If you want white and grey, have white and grey.

What colors? I prefer grey to beige, which is what our house was painted when we bought it.

I got really tired of gray but I honestly prefer it to the green that is now dominant. It’s too much green.

Yep, white/off white are classic.

Unfortunately, no. If you look at new builds and Renos, grey and white still will sell very fast as opposed to other color choices.

Grey everywhere feels like a rainy day to me, and I've been over that look for about 5 years. Anywhere I have grey in my house, I pair it with warm wood or a bright, saturated color.

I agree they’ve been over for a long time, but for some reason they seem to be persisting in houses put on the market. It’s like realtors have a playbook that tells them their house must be gray or no one will buy it. I’ve been seeing a lot more bright white the past couple years, which is better but I’m also pretty tired of. Give me the warm tones and wood over cold white/gray any day!

No. Some style blog is not a source. White and off white is always in.

there are always going to be houses that are on the current trend and more that are not. people can't update their houses with every style change, nor should they.

i say if you like grey and white, go for it. if you like something else, go for that. even when grey and white is/was popular, there were still people doing something else a little different or completely different.

current trend to me is colored cabinets or colored backsplash.

you all can have the white on white on white kitchens. bleh!
