It really depends on the age of the birthday child and the venue.

I had a preschool party at a party place with 20 kids max. I invited my child’s class (16 kids) plus 2 friends. I could not accommodate siblings.

In the past, I have had home parties where entire families were welcome.

I’m having a party tomorrow that is costing me $50 per kid. I think it would be pretty rude if someone brought extra siblings.

That depends, if you are my friend too, all your kids are invited. If you are a parent of my kid’s friend, that’s a different story…

We usually to include siblings that we know (and those we don't know if we can accomodate). I also don't think it's rude to ask. But my kids are still lower ES, maybe it's different when they get older. I like to include families even if it means less kids are invited.

I think it depends on the invite. I'm always very clear in our invites that siblings are invited, but we generally have parties that don't have a per head cost, or that the per head cost is super minimal.

OP, was it a house party? Or park party? Or something like a trampoline house or laser tag? I think that plays into whether siblings are welcome.

You should RSVP no in this case. The host family shouldn't have to pay for another kid because you are too cheap to pay for a babysitter.

Sorry you didn't room (or invite, I guess) correctly, OP.

Just because people did it doesn't mean the host wasn't silently fuming. I made the mistake ONCE of forgetting/not knowing I had to put "Unfortunately we can not accommodate siblings" and like ten siblings showed up. I was gracious but later that night needed to seriously vent to my husband about it. I KNOW that in some cultures you bring the whole family but that's not the case in mine, and not the case for the majority of the people invited.

Those people had NO IDEA how annoyed I was.
