American Eagle and Aerie.

At least at our mall, the women/girls working at the AE store are always super helpful. They ask if they can help us, and I always say YES. The talk directly to/with DD, magically figure out what vague/picky things she has in mind, and help her find them. They also understand the styles and sizing way better than I do, and it creates a buffer between me and the drama!

We've done that a few times and now can fill in the gaps each season on-line (with occassional returns to the store). They run sales and are generous with the "reward" points, too.

We've also had some luck at Athleta, but not as consistently as with AE and Aerie. GL!

I am looking for decent quality and stuff that will actually fit. She’s a kids 14/16 ~ adult xs, athletic build, wears adult size shoes.
And is weirdly picky about clothes, I can’t pin down “she likes THESE and THESE but not THESE.” Online shopping is difficult as she won’t ouck many things and will return almost everything.

So far I know we are going to target, kohl’s, d*ck’s. Probably Old Navy. I need more stores! I need ideas! I don’t know where to find acceptable clothing (enough to make the trip worth it) for this big kid in a small adult’s body!

I have more sympathy for myMom now - going thru the junior’s dept and finding bery littoe that we could agree on!
I am a kids 14/16 and 0 to 2P in women's.
Casual shoes-Sierra (TJMaxx of REI) in Sterling, unbelievable comfort, arch cushion, shock absorption, etc. If she can fit an adult 5 or higher even better as she can wear the in-house brand ~$10. Shoes so comfy, I was in and out of the store in 10 minutes including footies, try-on & lace-up, walk-around, jog, jump, twirl, kick, and stomp. https://www.sierra.com/girls-shoes~d~9871/4/

Casual Clothes-try Frankie in Tysons 1, Francesca's girls line. No "I won't wear that baby dress!" issue here.
Great sales too! ~$7. https://www.francescas.com/category/franki-for-girls

Athletic-I know I'm gonna' get mocked for this, but hear me out. Victoria's Secret hidden under-clothes. Before you think I'm nuts, just try it. If she is budding or will soon, this is a wonderful full movement garment and these pants help maintain a slight arch and abs in tights when training/drills/jog. She might even wear them under her PE uniform. She can go to shopjustice for a cool look over them. https://www.shopjustice.com/collections/clearance?Product%20Type[]=type%3AActivewear

Sundress-Ralph Lauren has timeless, quality basics that are very family-oriented. 10% off the already reduced prices at Saks. Suggest you go to Galleria as they look uninteresting at first, but are surprisingly flattering on and you have have to sift through to get the gems. https://www.ralphlauren.com/girls-clothing-dresses?prefn1=KidsSubClassSFCC&prefv1=Girls%20%28Sizes%207-16%29&srule=merchant-sequenced&start=0&sz=32&webcat=Kids%20%26%20Baby%7CGirls%7CDresses%20%26%20Rompers. Definitely hit Target, Walmart, and JCPenney. Good luck and I hope these are eclectic enough to at least make her confident in what she does ultimately choose. 👗

Ugh, it's so hard when they're in-between the child and adult sizes. I'm lucky that DD gets hand-me-downs in great shape from a friend with similar tastes (specifically, white and turquoise loungewear), and I fill in around the edges with Asics sneakers, underwear from Petit Bateau, outerwear mostly at REI. For DS, I buy clothes at LL Bean.

Sizing is so hard at that age.

I would try and focus on one thing at a time and do the easy stuff 1st. Can you order a bunch from Target and do at home try on. For Cat and Jack Jean shorts, we had luck with sizing down and going husky at that age.

Target and Gap now have "Tween and Teen" category that might be a place to look (online) to see if there is anything she likes.

Also check our American Eagle as well as Aerie. We found Abercrombie too small and frustrating that nothing fit.

We did some shopping this week for my daughter (just turned 11, similar sizing but prefers baggy fits) and had good luck at Target and Macys. Do check out the clearance racks at both as we found some sweatshirts and tshirts she liked there.

It’s totally fine to type in Dicks. We know you mean Dicks Sporting Goods.

My DD sounds like yours and we’ve had luck with Old Navy online. Not so much in person. Luckily they have free returns.

This brand had a lot of appropriate dresses my daughter liked.

For athletic clothes, it’s also worth it for us to drive out to Kohls (30 minutes away) because they have a lot of both girls and womens clothes.

Start looking at womens size xxs, 00, 0 and waist 24 and 25 jeans.

Abercrombie, aerie, Uniqlo, urban outfitters, pacsun, hollister and athleta/lululemon are all store my 13 year old likes.

For dresses, macys online has a lot more than in store, as well as Amazon, Asos, and Shein. You will have to filter well on what’s appropriate though.
