Why do you think history majors don't get jobs? Or go to law school? Or other professional / graduate school programs?

--employed history major with advanced degree with 2 siblings who also majored in history and are also employed

MY daughter absolutely hates STEM. She is off to UMD to pursue Political Science.

My DC is class of 2021 but close enough. He is a foreign affairs/history double major with hopefully a minor in Italian or Spanish.

He’s very intellectual and loves to write.

So yep there are those…

I just posted about one of my sons majoring in history. He has a very good job as an intelligence analyst. Not sure why you would think otherwise.

My DS ('23) is not focused on STEM. Guessing he might be a political science major although I wouldn't rule out philosophy either. He actually like math too but doesn't seem interested in majoring in it.

Two of my kids (sons) had zero interest in STEM. They both graduated a couple of years of ago, and are in college majoring in history and international affairs, respectively. My younger kids are also very interested in the humanities and not at all in STEM. Same with my husband and me. I think there are plenty of boys (and girls) who have no desire to go into STEM, but that seems to be all we hear about.

To read DCUM you get the impression that 50% of males plan to study CS, 48% some type of engineering and 2% undecided between the two. Maaybe some of them will do a double major in business and engineering/CS. OK, there's a smattering of pre-meds probably.

Does anyone else here have a high achieving DS off to a top RI university who plans to major in philosophy or history? No?
