Are you a current WIS or former WIS parent? What are "non-language areas?" This is another midunderstanding of what WIS does. Unless a student enters later and not in the full immersion track, Spanish or French, and English, are the mediums of instruction. Every subject is taught in both languages so there is no such thing as a "non-language area."

And my two kids, who were lifers at WIS, were quite prepared and are thriving in top-15 universities.


Math and Science. Parents who I know who left in Primary all said that their kids tested at a high level in Spanish or French, but were behind grade level in math and science. Specifically, reasoning and basic concepts



NP. When my kids were at WIS primary school, there was no differentiation in math. When they moved to public schools, we tutored them all summer so they could get into the higher math streams offered in the public school system.

A difference between WIS and Rochambeau is the level of French language immersion, WIS offers French immersion from preschool to kindergarten only, from then on it can be learned as and additional language or up to 50% of French instruction till grade 5th. Rochambeau is full immersion all grades from math classes to PE, all the teachers speak French. Every grade has an English class and ESOL class to reinforce English as necessary, and upper grades will have English instruction if appropriate with the subject matter such as American History, English Literature, etc.

Rochambeau follows the French curriculum while WIS follows the PYP. Also there are differences in the actual French part of the curriculum. For example, I don’t remember when at WIS children learn to conjugate verbs but it’s quite late.

Elementary Rochambeau isn’t late in Math compared to the american school?


My experience with math in elementary school is very encouraging, I do find it challenging for kids. They follow the French curriculum, which is known for its rigor. I can’t speak with personal experience about middle and high school yet, but I heard from parents who have children in those grades that as years progress the academic pressure intensifies

I always heard Rochambeau was late in math too. Also they use ipad instead of books in the middle school and high school. I don t know about elementary though. They teach a very academic way which is the total opposit that an american school (private or public).

Rochambeau is a great school, with rigorous curriculum, lovely international and local families, plus a brand new campus next academic year. Kid currently in maternelle (pre-K) and staying through primary and secondary education until college.

Bonjour, I don’t have experience with WIS, so I can’t add much about it. However, regarding Rochambeau, I can say that it is a wonderful school. I have two kids attending, matternelle and elementary school. We love the parents and community, I have met lovely families, American, Canadian, French, Latin American and many more. Thus far, my experience with teachers have been very positive, we feel very lucky to have Monsieur Zalá as the matternelle Director, he is first class, and genuinely loves the children and school.

Rochambeau will have a brand new campus with top facilities and offerings, you should take a serious look and meet some of the families.

I would say WIS because they likely have a better understanding of getting kids into other top private schools.
