I also wanted a luxury, comfortable 3 row and electric or plug in that was not ridiculously expensive, after much research the xc90 clicked all boxes. I’m waiting for mine too, it is supposed to arrive in June.

OP to PP: the price hike referenced is about Rivian substantially increasing the price of the car, including for people with pre-orders. They are referencing the XC90. Good luck getting yours--ours (seems we are sticking to it) should be coming soon.

Eh, Tesla does it every couple of weeks. It still is only 7 seat EV out there and honestly price before was too low for what it is.

OP back, thanks all. We have a (refundable) deposit on an XC90 recharge extended range that is supposed to arrive within a couple of weeks. I was just doing last due diligence to see if there is anything better on the market now--sounds like no. We do need a car relatively soon (3rd child inbound), so can't wait for the Rivian. The new extended range apparently gets around 30-32 miles in all-electric, and it bumps up the total horsepower to 455 if in combo gas + electric mode. I'm guessing this will be our solution!

FYI - my buddy in Minneapolis just ordered the XC90 recharge last week. His dealership told him it would be a 6 week wait. Not bad at all. He needs a vehicle for his family ASAP.

He's also had a reservation for a Rivian R1S since last summer. He will take possession of the R1S whenever it arrives and then sell whichever car he doesn't want. He expects that with the R1S he will be able to get a $15K-20K profit if he resells, via the $7500 tax credit and the fact that he had the old price already locked in.

Electric engines generate more HP than their ICE counterparts. You will accelerate significantly faster in pure EV mode.

How's the XC90 when in pure electric mode? Enough power for bumping around in city traffic, I'd assume. I loved it on a test drive but even the Volvo dealer had a hard time talking about the limits of electric-only. They also couldn't really pin down the MPG if you used it more like a traditional hybrid.

We looked last spring/early summer and decided that there wasn't anything better. We got the XC-90 plug in hybrid and love it. We get 50 mpg overall since we purchased 9 months ago.

I have the six seat recharge. Would like the bigger battery, but love the car. I think I'm at 55mpg for the life of the car. I buy gas every 3 months or so.

We are looking for a 3-row SUV to fit 6--us, 3 young kids, and occasionally au pair or grandma. One of us is insistent on a hybrid, ideally plug-in hybrid. Other wants a car that is at least somewhat fun. We're flexible on budget, but prefer less than $100k.

The Volvo XC-90 T8/Recharge--especially the new "Extended Range" version--seems to best hit what we're seeking. Is there anything better we should be looking at? I haven't come across much in my research, but figure others must be looking for things similar. Thank you!
