Pet insurance is there for the big and unexpected expenses, not for routine care.

I have Trupanion and pay $100/month for each of two senior dogs (ages 10 and 12). So far this insurance year Trupanion has reimbursed me ~$6200 for my older dog's cancer-related diagnostics and chemo, so we are "ahead" and will be moreso once we finish her last round of chemo. Last year they paid 90% of two emergency surgeries for her, one ~$2500 and the other ~$5000.

About $600 a year. Depends on plan pet age and health.

No pet insurance. I love my dog, but I will not spend 10s of thousands on his care when the time comes. In the meantime, I do my best to keep him healthy, and I have an old-fashioned vet who keeps things low-key and doesn't push interventions.

Nationwide- $65/month. Reimburses me for 70% of most visits, vaccines, prescriptions, etc.

NP. I looked up pet insurance for my cats once. It would have cost me over $100 a month and didn’t cover any of their vaccines or regular care. I pay for all of their medical care out of pocket since it’s a heck of a lot cheaper, even with the occasional emergency that costs a couple thousand dollars.

For my Bulldog, the monthly charge started at about $65/month; now, it's about $100/month.

Well, I don't think it's a scam at all if you have a dog prone to sickness. It's truly been a godsend for my English Bulldog. But, you should know it doesn't usually cover office visit fees and annual vaccines. It covers sickness (not preexisting) and injury; it's highly recommended you get insurance on day one of getting your puppy. This is so you wouldn't have any pre-existing conditions that wouldn't be covered.

Also, my vet has an annual plan (for about $500 hundred) that covers office visits and annul vaccines. Again, this is worth it for my Bulldog, who has chronic allergies.

I have very healthy 8yr. old Pomeranian mix dog and we use Banfield Wellness Plan.

I feel like paying $60 per month and still having $100 or so out-of-pocket for visits is a lot.

Any other recommendations?

Would private vets be any better?/cheaper?
